Breast Cancer Program
Why choose Main Line Health for breast cancer care?
Collaboration for optimal patient care
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and the most frequent cancer diagnosed and treated at Main Line Health. Fortunately, advances in prevention, early detection and treatment mean that more women diagnosed with breast cancer are living longer and with better quality of life than ever before.
At each of our four accredited breast centers, you have the focused attention of an experienced breast care team, including specialists in breast surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, medical and radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, cancer genetics, oncology nursing and oncology social work. You will have a nurse navigator to guide you through every aspect of your care, and all decisions are made with full support of all members of the team.
Our team understands the anxiety that facing a possible cancer diagnosis can create. Main Line Health breast surgeons are passionate about their work and committed to being available to every patient concerned about breast cancer. As a rule, if you have an abnormal diagnostic mammogram or a new breast lump, a Main Line Health breast surgeon will see you within 48 hours at one of five locations across the region. At this appointment, the surgeon will determine whether you need a breast biopsy and the best biopsy approach.
Regular breast tumor conferences allow the team to review each newly diagnosed case from every angle to optimize your initial treatment, and then to reassess at each step in your care. These proactive team discussions ensure that you benefit from all services appropriate for you, such as genetic counseling, fertility management, treatment with new medications or immunotherapies, clinical trials and management of any complications affecting cancer treatment or your quality of life.
