Drug Overdose Victims Treated in Main Line Health EDs

All health care systems seek to continually improve emergency department (ED) operations so as to deliver exceptional care to patients. At the same time, ED medical personnel often find themselves at the forefront of today’s battle against illicit opioid and drug use, an epidemic being experienced in communities across the country.

For that reason, it’s helpful for Main Line Health ED clinicians to have readily available aggregated data on their patient populations battling substance use disorders—information that can help ED administrators better plan for and deliver quality patient care.

It is also helpful to know more about the current disposition of these patients when they leave our care. This information may help providers and administrators develop strategies and identify opportunities for promoting high-quality care of these patients.

An extensive study of patients treated in Main Line Health’s four acute care hospitals in recent years, showed the following:
