Feminizing "top" surgery involves surgical techniques used to enhance the size, shape, or fullness of the breasts in people who were assigned male at birth and desire a more feminine-appearing chest. While estrogen stimulates some breast development, the amount of growth may not be satisfactory for some people.
The most common technique for feminizing top surgery is implant-based breast augmentation. Other techniques involve transfer of fat or other tissue from another part of the body to the chest; however, fat and tissue transfer techniques are less commonly done.
For implant-based breast augmentation, saline or silicone implants can be used. To insert the implant, the surgeon makes an incision under the breast and creates a pocket, either above or below the chest wall muscle, to hold the implant in place. The surgeon will select the best location of the implant based on a person's unique anatomy and the size and type of the implant.
While there are anatomic restrictions that limit the maximum implant size, you will have a sizing appointment before surgery to discuss your desired appearance.
Before requesting a consultation, we recommend that you review the eligibility criteria for feminizing top surgery.

The goal of gender-affirming surgery is to help transgender and gender expansive people align their physical anatomy with their gender identity. While surgery is not a part of everyone's goals or transition, gender-affirming surgeries can provide an important avenue of treatment for people with gender dysphoria.
