Facial Feminization Surgery

What is facial feminization surgery?

Facial feminization surgery refers to surgical techniques that are used to reshape masculine facial features to achieve a more feminine appearance. These techniques can produce subtle but distinct changes in the shape or size of the nose, forehead, brow, hairline, lips, chin, cheeks, or jawline.

A variety of surgical procedures are used in gender-affirming facial feminization, including:

  • Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty)
  • Brow lift
  • Forehead (frontal bone) and brow contouring
  • Chin reshaping (genioplasty)
  • Jaw reduction
  • Cheek augmentation
  • Lip augmentation
  • Hairline advancement
  • Tracheal shave (surgery to reduce the size and appearance of the Adam’s apple)

Patients with persistent gender dysphoria may wish to consider one or more facial feminization procedures if hormone therapy does not produce the degree of desired changes in facial features.
